چکیده

A new device has been developed for the study of physisorbed elements on polished and large surface used in mass metrology. This technique, based on the analysis by mass spectrometry of desorbed molecules caused by heating under vacuum from the analyzed surface, is presented. The first application of this device is the study of the current and future mass standards to understand the reactivity of their surface depending of the storage conditions, of the cleaning process and polishing method. So, an example of surface contamination analysis by thermal desorption mass spectrometry (about cleaning effect on a super alloy based on cobalt) is given.

Molecular Beam-Thermal Desorption Spectrometry (MB-TDS) Monitoring of Hydrogen Desorbed from Storage Fuel Cell Anodes

Different types of experimental studies are performed using the hydrogen storage alloy (HSA) MlNi3.6Co0.85Al0.3Mn0.3 (Ml: La-rich mischmetal), chemically surface treated, as the anode active material for application in a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The recently developed molecular beam-thermal desorption spectrometry (MB-TDS) technique is here reported for detecting the electroc...

Surface chemistry of SnO2 nanowires on Ag-catalyst-covered Si substrate studied using XPS and TDS methods

In this paper we investigate the surface chemistry, including surface contaminations, of SnO2 nanowires deposited on Ag-covered Si substrate by vapor phase deposition (VPD), thanks to x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) in combination with thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). Air-exposed SnO2 nanowires are slightly non-stoichiometric, and a huge amount of C contaminations is observed at th...

Detection of volatile organic compounds in breath using thermal desorption electrospray ionization-ion mobility-mass spectrometry.

A thermal desorption unit has been interfaced to an electrospray ionization-ion mobility-time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The interface was evaluated using a mixture of six model volatile organic compounds which showed detection limits of <1 ng sample loaded onto a thermal desorption tube packed with Tenax, equivalent to sampled concentrations of 4 microg L(-1). Thermal desorption profiles wer...

Development of a thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method for determination of styrene in air. Application to workplace air

Styrene is a compound commonly used in several industries, especially in those that manufacture glass-reinforced products. A thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry method for determination of styrene in industrial indoor and outdoor air is presented. Split valves of the thermal desorption unit were fixed at flows of 150 mL/min for indoor air and 5.3 mL/min for outdoor air, whic...
